If you're interested in becoming an IFYE Host Family, please fill out and submit the Host Family Application form below. If you prefer, you may print a copy of the form to submit via mail or email by following the instructions provided below the online application form.

To ensure the safety of program participants, background checks are required on all host family members aged 18 and over by the IFYE program. An email address is required for family members 18 years and older. Driving records of all household drivers who may be transporting a participant will also be checked.

Please note the following Host Family Guidelines:

  • Selection is based on references, application, background screening and ability to closely match participants and families.
  • Background screening conducted on all individuals in the home who are 18 years and older.
  • All applicants will receive notification of selection as soon as possible by the state coordinator/designee for the program.
  • If accepted to be a host family, you agree that our family's likeness may be used by the IFYE Association of the USA, Inc.
  • If selected as a host family, you will be expected to treat the exchangee as one of the family members, and make a conscious effort to include the exchangee in all family activities.
  • Your family must be flexible, patient, and willing to communicate both verbally and non-verbally while hosting a person from another country.
  • No special arrangements are expected for entertaining or traveling with this exchangee. The program emphasizes the experience of normal family life.
  • All family members should make sure that the exchangee feels comfortable around friends and feels included in activities.
  • You will contact the relevant international exchange coordinator immediately if illness or other problems occur.
