Michelle Stork - Kansas to Germany
I could never have prepared for the impact of gaining two new families that I became a part of or the friendships that I have gained with other IFYEs and IFYE alumni. My first family were turkey farmers and welcomed me into their home and livelihood. I gained two teenage sisters whom I enjoyed hanging out watching movies with, going swimming, or to music festivals with. My second family had two young children and I enjoyed playing games with them every day-many times creating our own games. I loved the opportunity to learn a little of the German language, experience music activities, traveling, and learning to cook many German meals. I believe that traveling opens a person’s eyes to new ways of thinking, activities, history, and much more. Traveling through IFYE has given me the opportunity to travel and learn about Germany while creating lasting memories, friendships, and families.
