IFYE Board Member - Lee Hood Capps
Lee Hood Capps served as an IFYE-YDP participant (International 4-H Youth Exchange - Youth Development Project) from North Carolina to the Philippines between 1972 - l973. In the Philippines, he worked for the Bureau of Agricultural Extension, Region X, as a Youth Development Officer and advisor to North Cotabato Governor Carlos B. Cajelo.
Upon returning to the USA, Lee Hood joined Phi Kappa Sigma International as the Field Chapter Consultant for the collegiate and alumnae chapters in Canada and the USA. His Filipino IFYE host brother organized Phi Kappa Sigma Philippines which today has 42 chapters, mostly in the Mindanao Region.
Lee Hood’s undergraduate studies were from the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill. Following completion of his University of Iowa MA degree in Public Affairs, Capps focused on local and regional economic development, downtown redevelopment, municipal management and National Trust Main Street projects. In 2008, he formed CAPPS Ltd., a consulting advisory group to strategically aid local governments, entrepreneurial companies, and citizen groups to achieve positive performance solutions.
To celebrate his 60th birthday, Lee Hood completed the Traverse City, Michigan marathon in 2010. In 2012, he traveled to Berlin and completed the Berlin Marathon. While in Germany, on behalf of Mt. Gilead, North Carolina, he renewed Mt.Gilead’s International Sister City liaison with Losheim am See, Germany.
IFYE Teresita Baylon Capps, Philippines to USA (Virginia and Wyoming)1971 is Lee Hood’s former wife and they have two grown children. Since 2003, Lee Hood has lived in the Historic Northern Neck area of Virginia.
Lee Hood has stopped running but still enjoys outdoor hiking and backroad traveling, with anticipation of additional international adventures, particularly a return trip to the Philippines.
