Secretary - Connie (Harms) Fukudome
1971 IFYE from KS to The Netherlands, became interested in IFYE in 5th grade when her own family hosted their first IFYE who came from India. It is still her lifelong dream to travel in India. Other IFYEs her family hosted came from Kenya, South Africa, and Japan. Connie, her husband and two children visited her host families in Holland again in 1983 and she still keeps in touch with various family members from each of her host families.
Connie has 25 years teaching experience at the Elementary level at the American School in Japan (ASIJ). ASIJ is the largest International School of many in Tokyo. Connie has taught children from many countries of Europe, Asia, the Middle East and the USA. She is married to a Japanese (a college classmate) and her two children attended Japanese Elementary School before entering ASIJ for middle school and high school. Though Connie did not master the Japanese Language, she is very knowledgeable about Japanese culture and has also traveled to various countries in Asia. Her daughter-in-law is from the Philippines. Prior to her marriage, Connie taught three years in Hutchinson, Kansas. She was active at the Grace Hill Mennonite Church, Whitewater, KS, West Tokyo Union Church, and Evergreen Mennonite Church in Kirkland, WA, teaching Sunday school, directing Christmas Pageants, and as a member and officer of the Steering Committee at West Tokyo Union Church.
