Betty Jo Smith Roberts
Betty Jo Smith-Roberts was a 1970 IFYE from Kansas to Ecuador and led a group of Teen Caravaners (4-H Youth Exchangees) to Switzerland in 1974. She has participated in Extension Training Programs in Latin America and Africa, some of those through USAID. She also worked with Partners of the Americas.
Smith-Roberts has been a lifelong educator, teaching Pre-School through University levels. She was an Extension Family Life Education Specialist for the Texas Agricultural Extension Service, taught Family and Child Development Classes at Goshen College and IVY Tech in Indiana and served as a Middle School Guidance Counselor until she retired in June of 2012. She and her husband, Jon (1970 IFYE from IN to Panama), own and operate farms in Northern Indiana and Kansas. They farm with their oldest son and his family. Their youngest son and his family farm about three hours away. Smith-Roberts continues to pursue her hobbies of travel, politics, and fabric arts.
